Pat - I think Tom Paxton is probably one of the best known folk singers that fans don't know that they know. In fact, name these tunes (these are from memory - haven't found the lyrics on the web)

1)it went zip went it moved
bop when it stopped
and whir went it stood still
I never knew just what it was
And I guess I never will

2)______ __ ____ fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober?

3)It's a lesson too late for the learnin'
Made of sand, made of sand
And in the wink of an eye my soul is turnin'
In your hand, in your hand

Are you goin' away with no word of farewell
And will there be not a trace left behind
I should have loved you better
I didn't mean to be unkind
You know ____ ___ ___ ____ _____ __ __ ____

All Tom Paxton tunes.

I'm glad it turned out to have been his song. It reminded me that I've always wanted to add his music to my collection. He also wrote what I consider to be the best anti-war song - "Jimmy Newman". At least I think it was an anti-war song; I haven't heard it in about 30 years or so.

He's also a great live performer. Saw him about a year ago at a Steve Goodman tribute show and he was excellent.
