Gayle and Thread- Speaking of being, "strong in the optical space," this took me by surprise when I first read it. I'm wondering if anyone can verify the following:
"After Nortel and Lucent, the quarterly revenue growth of the next three largest optical transport players, in order of market share, is as follows: Fujitsu, up 3 percent; Alcatel, down 19 percent; and Marconi, up 10 percent. Marconi's 10 percent growth came on top of 50 percent revenue growth in the fourth quarter of 1999, while Alcatel failed to follow up on its blockbuster growth of 68 percent in the fourth quarter of 1999."

Of course this is "seqential" growth being talked about. But I have to say, I was surprised considering that all the other top players showed growth (with the exception of Lucent).
I can tell you Serge reported that in Q100 they did more DWDM business than in ALL of 1999 total. That is why the Dell'Oro report took me by surprise. I'll have to see if I have other reports to cross check. Now IF they did 19% less optical business, quarter to quarter, it does have me slightly concerned.
Here's my notes from Q499(http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=12790512). I don't recall Serge talking about any blockbuster "68% growth in optical." At least my notes don't show anything of that nature.
If anyone has detailed notes that show the absolute dollar business done in Q499 and Q100, please post. Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida) |
