My wife's aunt works for Wachovia Bank. We stayed at their house a couple of nights in the 'Fall' of the summer of 98. I told her it was over for stocks, and banks in particular. She had most of her retirement in WB.

She of course replied the bull, 'wall st', mantra that stocks always come back in the long run, and she wasn't retiring for another 5 years.

Of course, my advice looked foolish after AG bailed out the speculators in 98, because the stock actually went up a little for a few weeks. Check the chart out on the performance since.

She probably will have to postpone her retirement a few years now. I bet she wishes she had trusted my judgement, and not wall street's mantra.

I pray that it finds support here soon so it won't be another +5 years before she reaches Retirement City..
