hi Joan~
the doctorspeak referred to is typical in that situation. for all their knowledge, learning, experience and expertise, there is much unknown. each patient is unique and every serious illness has a myriad of specifics to the individual. each doctor and nurse have their own personality, style and way of dealing with family and friends. some are up front and honest, other evasive. Edwarda will have a team of doctors and nurses caring for her, each bringing their own 'stamp' with them. we on SI only being 'friends' and 'calling in', we will get very little information. the kind SI people who speak to Claudia will get a better picture and share with us.
I lived 3 weeks in the intensive care lounge as someone I loved was being treated. I dealt with every medical personality type imaginable. some follow the rules to a T, others break every rule to help the patient and you. maybe because of the stillness of the night or quietness of the hospital in the wee hours, 3rd shift personnel were the most 'human', easiest to talk to, honest and caring. soft whispers of hope and warmth
this is so sad, for everyone
Edwarda has such a strong spirit, so full of life, I know she will pull through
always positive, full of the devil and strong, supportive, there for you, when you need some help
I'll add beautiful and smart too for when she finally reads this
