Even though I think that Korean demand will slow due to the elimanation of handset subsidies.....this articles doesnt have much credability with me. This is the only place I found the numbers for new subs in May reported (normally it is reported religiously in at least 2 or 3 newspapers). Also, it directly contradicts reports of huge demand at the end of May as consumers rushed to get the subsidized handsets.

Number of mobile phone subscribers plunges
In the wake of the repeal of subsidies on mobile phones, the number of subscribers has taken a dip mainly because of high prices of handsets.

After the repeal, which took place this month, the number of mobile phone service subscribers decreased from 27,233,900 as of the end of May to 27,023,000 as of June 13, the first drop in the history of Korea's mobile phone service.

The number of subscribers to SK Telecom, Shinsegi Telecomm and Korea Telecom Freetel reached 11,698,000, 3,856,000 and 5,030,000 this month, dropping by 78,000, 43,000 and 26,000 from the previous month, respectively. The number of subscribers to LG Telecom fell from 3,702,700 in May to 3,636,900 in June, a decline of 68,500.

On the contrary, the number of subscribers to Hansol M.com increased by 1,900 in June to 2,802,100. Hansol M.com cancelled a large number of subscribers with bad credit last month.
