I have appreciated Jim Parkinson's work for a long time and think that his view provides the best information I have. A couple of weeks ago I happened by a cell phone store in a town of 10,000 in eastern Montana. Noting that the sign had been changed, I stepped in to see what was up. It turns out that Verizon bought out the company this agency used to represent. Though the store was not owned by Verizon, it now offered Verizon services which are mostly an older analog system which blankets more populated areas of Montana and other northern plains states in competition with Cellular One.

Upon hearing that they were representing Verizon, I said Globalstar. The single salesman's eyes lit up and he said he did not have a phone yet but one was coming in this afternoon. He would have to pay cash for it and he waved a check which was laying on his desk. I said "let me guess--$670". He said "$13xx".

I felt bad but he was enthusiastic and talked about driving a hundred miles south to visit some of the ranchers and oil people who have no coverage of any kind.

The store which I visited in Bozeman and which told me they had received training on Globalstar and phones would be in any day now, I revisited about 6 weeks later. Still no phones available. They had also been part of the same chain I talked about above, but I believe this store is now an owned outlet of Verizon and has 3 sales people in the store when I've been there.

Apparently the sales channel is not yet filled.

The last visit made to a series of stores has been in southern Arizona, and I need to get back and see if they finally have phones available.
