If I didn't know better I'd say the the Republicans are behind the Fed rate hikes, the housing and retail slowdown and even the DOJ antics...just appears to me that a "hard landing" is coming....Al Gore, you listenin'?.........Market Movers: Stocks' mushy
performance could be omen

by Greg Heberlein
Seattle Times business reporter

Government statistics the past two weeks demonstrate a slowing
economy that many analysts now say will short-circuit further
interest-rate increases.

But value-style stocks that should profit from such news have
been bashed, and high-technology stocks have barely stayed
even. Is Wall Street forgetting the Bill Clinton dictum, "It's the
economy, stupid"?

Perhaps the answer is that the stock market already accounted for
this when it torched record highs in March with a cataclysmic fall:
The Nasdaq composite index drooped 41 percent from its highs,
the Dow Jones industrial average sagged 15 percent from its best.

So the market's current mushy performance is an omen for what's
to come beyond Fed rate increases. There will be no end to the
guesses.
