Mostly agree, JDN. But the market surely is pounding any large cap that announces disappointing earnings news (examples: Proctor & Gamble, Xerox). I'm talking about a new correction simply because my models all seem aligned that way right now, and the price/volume action last week seems to suggest a near-term top.

Yes, the value of technical analysis (TA that works, that is) for the long-term investor, is in timing purchases and sales. If you have a short-term TA system that works, you're less likely to buy at the start of a market dip, and more likely to buy when the market is likely to continue upward.
