I heard that same argument in 1989, about the lack of savings rate. That was why the Japanese were eating our lunch. Do those savings rates factor in Insurence, 401K, and other investement vehicles? Putting ones savings in a CD is an ineffient use of funds. I believe The japenese use their capital very Unefiently. I do agree that the debt problem is a concern, annd should be where the GOVT directs its efforts at reform.
