If it were an environmental factor rather than a virus i.e., toxins, fumes, molds etc., it would be helpful to know if her cat's been ill during the last few weeks.

Symptoms seem weirdly like long term poisoning. If I recall it seems like long term arsenic poisoning can result in similar reactions as the body breaks down.

Not that this is that, but possibly long term exposure to some toxin, a little at a time. I'm thinking in terms of environmental factors, not deliberate actions.
