The reason I am asking is that I am working on a case where a 12 year old boy died of side effects from Epstein-Barr virus, which doesn't ordinarily kill people. However, there are some rare, but well-known conditions which may result, a couple of which cause internal bleeding due to a pathological condition that prevents clotting. The internal bleeding is fatal.

I was thinking along the same lines. If she'd been hemmorhaging, slowly but steadily, for several days, it might well have caused diarrhea and vomiting. In addition--I know this sounds weird--if your body absorbs too much blood through the stomach and intestinal tract, it'll make you incoherent and irrational.

But I think it goes without saying that once she arrived at the hospital internal bleeding, if present, would have been discovered and treated.
