THEN THERE'S NOKIA ...
Have we needlessly gotten ourselves "all in a lather", over the effect of Wi-Lan's financial & equipment investment in 4GNetwork ?

One source of concern, I believe, has been that 4GNT has arranged initial financing of only $42 million, and appears not to be looking for more of the same; at least not at the present time.

"How then are they to cover the purchase cost of Wi-Lan's products, build out their networks and other enterprises, and stay in business ?" -- we ask ourselves.

Most likely the answer is, that 4GNT already has one or more "Exclusive Marketing & Distributing Partners" -- with rather deep pockets !

A close look at 4GNT's "Partner Candidate Profile" at
4gnetwork.com
is in order:
Specifically Further, this Program will provide our Partners with the potential of receiving an exclusive arrangement for marketing and distributing 4GNT?s products and broadband network services within their own business ?type?. Determination of awarding exclusivity to any Partner will be predicated upon agreed milestone requirements for subscriber growth and revenue.

Partners will also have the ability to participate in coordinated, high-profile affinity marketing programs such as NASCAR/ARCA sponsorship, promotion and merchandising opportunities.

To be a conducive Partner candidate, your company should have a profile that includes:

A Large Customer Base With Recurring Service Provision, Billing Or Interaction With Your Customers -and/or- A Large Captured Audience For New Product Sales
Possess Established Marketing, Sales and Distribution Resources
Operate Within A Competitive Environment Against Other Same Business ?Types?
Seek New Revenue Streams, Product/Service Offerings, Differentiation & Growth Opportunities
A few sample industries and business ?types? to benefit from Program participation may include:

Internet & E-commerce
Portals, E-tailers, ISPs, Online Business Centers, Service Bureaus, Application Service Providers

Utilities - Powerline Service Providers

Telecommunications
Commercial Services Providers, LECs/CLECs, Paging, PCS & Cellular Providers

Financial Services Companies
Online Traders, Online Banking, Credit Card Companies

Computing - Hardware/Software
Manufacturers, Application Developers, Integrators

Would it not also be logical, that Hatim (who has been working with 4GNT for about 2 years), is very well aware of, and has contributed to, this partner selection process ?

Then THERE IS NOKIA ...
Much can be said on Nokia ... but my time does not allow,
(and I invite comment and thoughts on the following) ..

For your own information .... I suggest a careful review of the several Press Releases at ofdm-forum.com
and ... look for Nokia's serious involvement in the "soon to be upon us" 4G communications revolution,
as follows....

1. Nokia is one of the first members (now 10) of the
OFDM Steering Committee.
This committee fully intends to shape the future of
common OFDM (4G) standards.

2. Nokia is the Chair of ..
Fixed Wireless Access (WLAN) , including ...
Home Multimedia,
and Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs).

I believe that this leaves little doubt that Nokia fully intends to be a leader in the 4G revolution.

It's also apparent that Nokia will send a number of Key
Personnel to the July 13-15 meetings in Calgary to not only view the Chuckwagon Races, but to fully partake in some serious Working Group and Plenum Session activities as well.

Best,
Mardy.
