Interesting that the ex-employee can't spell Del Yocam's first name. I know it's a tough one, but you would think he'd have mastered that -- he spells it Dell and in that large screwdriver operation. Then again, a QA guy is the only ex that would bother to post anything since I'm sure his non-disclosure stipulated not to go to work for Fry's electronics after leaving Inprise's QA department (Quality Approximation).

It's unfortunate that Inprise does not understand this. The weak link in their products is and has always been the poor collateral material that gets increasingly important as you get systems with many inter-related components. If you take a look at Microsoft's documentation they provide sample links right off of the page containing the API call you're reading about. This wasn't important when you had linear, stand-alone API calls. That's not the case anymore with a framework and a multi-tier application. They need to spend more money on that and if it means soliciting seasoned and proven authors to create Kylix books then do it. I wouldn't underestimate the value of Charles Petzold's Programming Windows to the early success of that environment. I don't want to have to search for everything: everything should be indexed and that index should be filtered to clean out noise. That's the only way to move people off of Visual Studio because that's what they're use to.

As for quality, Inprise QA is a cruel joke in contrast to Microsoft's speed and effectiveness and catching and fixing bugs before the product is released. Inprise has its head up its behind on this issue. They don't think anything is wrong, and even though the company is in the gutter, they still think it's all just A.O.K. Well, it's not and they better fix their QA and support process. I have almost no faith they will do that. It's an area of major importance that arrogance or something is preventing them from every admitting to needing fixed. Microsoft understands this is an area of critical importance and they have it down to a science.
