I have just gotten off the phone with JLA. He left the hospital about 90 minutes ago. Monica was in some ways better, for example, her blood pressure has stabilized, and in some ways worse, for example, her breathing was a bit more labored. The situation is overall much the same.

Monica has a friend who is a pediatrician at the hospital. That doctor has a friend who is a high- powered infectious disease specialist at Harvard. The infectious disease specialist was down this morning, and reviewed all of the case history, particularly the tests. He said that he could think of nothing that had been omitted. I also want to emphasize that JLA and the cousins have been very impressed with the hospital.

There is another battery of tests that they will run assuming that they solve the bleeding problem and can do the dialysis. However, they cannot do it without those conditions being met. As I have said, the complications arising from so many of her organs being compromised is making it difficult to act vigorously to track this down.

I confirmed with JLA that she was reasonably coherent for a couple of days after admission, and thus was likely to have been able to participate in the initial write up of her history.

Claudia was not at the hospital before JLA left, but they did speak on the phone. They have had contact in the past, and, in fact, he was the one who called her with the news. They had a reasonably productive conversation, and he urged her to consult with the other relatives about any important decisions, and invited him to call her if she needed anything.

I know people are eager for an update. If I think of any other details that should be posted, I will add them as they occur to me............
