Brian-- I do not think the market has sent any message whatsoever about Intel's cpu performance. Intel is up 70+%since October of 1999. AMD has gone up 390%. However, I think AMD's rise to date is mostly due to flash, coupled with the market feeling that maybe cpus will not be such a drag on earnings anymore. If you figure flash makes $60M a quarter (18% net margin in this raging boom period seems reasonable), and attach a p/e of 40 to those earnings, you can justify a $10B market cap based on just the flash.

People have been programmed very well to believe in the gorilla. Luckily, as earnings continue to march steadily upwards, the cpu division should come to get the respect it deserves.
