E Coli lives naturally in the human colon, which is how it got its name. That is also one of the things that makes it dangerous: because it is a normal resident in the human body, it is very frequently exposed to antibiotics, and many strains have developed a wide range of resistance.

That said, I'm sure that the doctors treating Edwarda are well aware of these possibilities. I know we all want to do something, but the truth is that all we can do right now is hope or pray, according to our preferences. Her doctors have huge amounts of information and knowledge that we lack, and a few dozen amateur diagnoses aren't going to help much.

PS. That last meant as a general comment, not directed at you or specifically to anyone.
