my sense is that NTAP has some good wrinkles, has executed well, but is a long ways from being a "gorilla" and will face some serious competition in the near term, with little aside from hustle and marketing savvy to maintain their position.

Rudedog, I have followed your posts in several threads, particularly the INTC thread. Your credentials are impressive.

All I will do is respectfully disagree with you and state my opinion that NTAP's NAS is disruptive due to NTAP's OS and its patented WAFL file layout and all of the features and additional patents that are a direct result of the characteristics of WAFL. The cite that I gave you is linked to several papers and other posts that attempt to support my opinion.

Could you point me to an explanation of SUNW's file snapshot or "instant image" feature. I may have the nomenclature wrong, but it was discussed a bit on the webcast last week. I would like to understand the particulars of that feature.

Thanks.
