PTC Partners with Leading EDA Vendor to Provide Integrated Electronics Product Development Capabilities
WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 2000--PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), a leading provider of collaborative product commerce (CPC) solutions, today announced a unique agreement with Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN) to support electronics industry requirements for enterprise-wide, Internet-based, collaborative management of product data. The jointly developed Windchill-based solution will allow customers to access and manage printed circuit board (PCB) data created with Cadence's Allegro(R) and Concept HDL(R) products through Windchill Release 5.0 (See related announcement, "PTC Ships Windchill 5.0," June 19, 2000).
PTC and Cadence are helping their customers develop and deliver products more quickly and cost-effectively, by dramatically reducing the traditional disconnect associated with multi-discipline design teams, spread across geographically dispersed locations, working on complex electronics systems design. Users will be able to check-in, search for, and check-out version-controlled electronic product data and associated derived manufacturing files through this new integration technology, thus facilitating Windchill-enabled, multi-discipline team collaboration and design reuse.
"Modern electronics manufacturing involves a complex variety of mechanical, electrical, and software data. We are pleased to partner with PTC to offer our mutual customers the Cadence/PTC interface as well as the associated integration services that comprise a complete solution for product data management," commented Greg Thomas, vice president of methodology services at Cadence.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Cadence(R) Methodology Services organization will develop a solution to integrate Cadence's industry-leading suite of PCB design tools with PTC's suite of Windchill CPC solutions. The integration effort will result in a solution to securely manage critical PCB product data in conjunction with the other mechanical and software components associated with today's complex electronic designs. The solution will be available through the PTC distribution channel and will be supported by a complete set of implementation and customization services available from both companies.
"We are pleased to be working with Cadence's Methodology Services and ADC Telecommunications to provide customers an integrated, Web-based collaborative environment," said James P. Baum, executive vice president and general manager, Windchill at PTC. "By enabling users of Cadence's popular PCB design tools to control and manage critical electronic product data from within the Windchill technology, we have simplified the process of coordinating content existing in multiple engineering disciplines."
ADC Telecommunications, Inc. has partnered with PTC to establish integrations to Windchill for the EDA industry, and has been an active participant in this development project Daniel Pitsch, an Engineering Systems Manager for ADC says, "We are focused on enhancing our processes to create, maintain and produce complex electronic systems. We expect these capabilities to reduce cost of development and product sold, improve time to market and improve process quality. Our approach is to leverage product definition information within Windchill, using their suite of process management capabilities to simplify and accelerate key processes. We are deploying a comprehensive application of Windchill in the EDA space, and this integration will provide the foundation of product definition data which these capabilities will be built around." |
