I believe Tiger's inner voice would not let him take all of Nicklaus's records in one tourny. The putt on 18 was the worst line he took all day.

I think it is his respect for the history of the game (Nicklaus in particular) which he bowed to on 18 tee. I thought it was a fitting compliment he made and shows his maturity as a man.
