The auto makers went kicking and screaming about the "cost of implementing" air bags until it was mandated. Now they can't figure out enough ways to promote it in any variation they can come up with. What was once a regarded as a drain on profits is now considered an innovation that has helped to generate sales for safety minded drivers.
