I have not researched this deeply, but it is my feeling that he was the actual author. I think that he had a decent grammar school education, which would have been literary, and a glib tongue, the inspiration of several predecessors, notably Marlowe, and an intimate acquaintance with stagecraft and what worked. A gentleman, like Bacon or Shaftesbury, would have shown the influence of Roman models, and been more self- conscious about form, as Dryden and Addison were later when writing tragedy.......
