In the movie "Smoke", Lou Reed says in an interview that the scariest country to him is Sweden.

While visiting there, he was sitting in a car at a stop light with the motor idling waiting for the light to change. A couple of people approached the car and asked why he wasn't shutting his motor off while he waited for the light to change.

At his hotel, there was a sign pasted to the inside of the vanity that read, "If you are contemplating suicide, call this number...."
