Peter - if the SEC bust from last week is any indicator, I suspect that manipulation is rampant in the market on both sides of the game. I would certainly enjoy a 1-month membership to A@P's site - there is no doubting in my mind that he has forgotten more about the stock market and trading, etc than I will probably ever know.

That reporters are not on the take, as you put it, is a premature conclusion. While there may be many corporate scams out there, it would be completely unreasonable to assume that they are the only scams out there. Where there is lots of money to be made, it would seem quite reasonable that criminals would gather... on short and long sides of the trade.

The David Evans thing is merely a curiosity - an indication of the potential for fraud and collusion.
