Scumbria,

I believe the solution of an on-chip RDRAM memory controller on the Willamette, Timna and Alpha 21364 chips in 2001 will decrease the latency (and cost) and keep the chips fed with instructions/data as these chips speed increase.

I am not worried about any latency issue/difference with RDRAM vs DDR SDRAM with an on-chip RDRAM memory controller. The RDRAM on-chip controller vs a off-chip DDR SDRAM controller should give the advantage to RDRAM. I'm sure Intel knows the latency differences and has a idea of how hard it might be to put a DDR SDRAM controller on-chip.
