| Kyros, I think Mama Bear might be right that giving a sell order on your shares won't make them unavailable for loan. I think moving them to a separate cash account, which is what I have done, does make them unavailable for loan and also unavailable as backing for your own margin position.
People close to their margin maintenance position would not be able to move their stock to a cash account as that would put them over their limit. It might even be the case that they can't go over their 'Buy' limit by moving their stock. I'm only guessing this because it would make sense - I don't have a factual basis.

My own broker told me to move it to a cash account if I wanted to avoid the stock being loaned and I have done so. I haven't checked whether that reduced my 'borrowing power' though.

Mama Bear, you should not denigrate information which is read on the internet. All information transmission is the same, whether read by pixilated people on a pixelated WorldWildWeb screen, carbon dots on a newspaper, heard on high definition TV, listened to in a lecture either via microphone or direct from the larynx. You are misleading people into thinking that there is something less real about information on the internet than other sources of information.

The important thing to do is have some measure of the veracity of the source, whichever medium of transmission is used.

The internet is, I find, my single most accurate, truthful, multifaceted, fast, and targeted information source with feedback loops for testing the information and sources. I think it will not be long before I prefer It to my memory. It will not be long after that that I will let It do my thinking for me too. It will handle trivial things too, such as parse my writing so that it is spelled [or spelt] correctly with grammar defects auto-corrected.

Even your own eyes are just another medium of transmission, liable to leave you deceived. Think of any half-decent magician let alone the multiple eye-witness accounts which factually differ although the people believe they are being truthful.

The objective truth of the information received is only tested and made real after it is acted on by the person who believes it. Then, the cold, cruel world of 3D reality considers the action and refutes the concept with a splat onto a solid, immovable concrete slab or a wonderful uplifting reverse-spun graviton anti-gravity machine, soaring on the wings of a new idea.

You denigrate the Web at your peril! It is looking for friends and It already has a lot of them. Orwell's Big Brother has NOTHING on It[TM]. Big Brother was born in 1948, was ascendant in 1984, but died in 1990 with the advent of the Web and the symbolic demise of 'the evil empire' USSR. Gorby tried to tame and civilize BB from 1994 to 1990, but sadly, failed. Now, IT [TM] is on the rampage! Ted Kaczynski was on the trail and trying to stop It, but the poor guy didn't have a chance. What's funny is that Ted was right that It was coming, but wrong in how to fight It - he attacked the very people most likely to support his battle.

 I love It.

You are reading it on the internet.

Reality is not determined by the information transmission medium. Reality is created in your mind from whatever sources you select and expressed by your actions. If your mind is a good representation, you will be rich, live long, happy and healthy. If the pixels your pixilated mind fancies are false representations, then you will meet the solid brick wall of objective 3D reality as your nose and mind are crunched into submission when you act on those false pixels.

As It[TM] develops, I think It will become a better representation of reality than my own mind, which will be tiny, forgetful, weak-thinking and hopelessly slow. I'll attach to It and depend on It to symbiotically look after my little piece of 3D.
