All he had to do was picture the ball flight, and his swing would auto adjust to strike the ball correctly, it would just happen.

That reminds me of a young Ben Crenshaw. After being a PGA tour winner early in his career he was asked about drawing and fading shots. His reply was that he "thought" hook or fade. Talent is a wonderful thing...along with thousands of rounds of practice.
