April's trade figures may well be a sleeper tomorrow, but watch for the May numbers: While the dollar didn't gain much in April over March, it grew by 5% in May not to mention the 20% gain in oil prices. In addition, May is one day longer than April and consumers traditionally spend more money when they don't have to pay taxes, so there could be a $3.5 - $4B gain the trade deficit when the May figures are released next month. We haven't seen a surge like that for a long time. It may be time to move your investments inland a little.
