I don't believe therefore that it is illegal to just carry in public. I'm no lawyer, but I believe a side-effect of the Texas concealed handgun law makes it illegal to carry a handgun unless you have a license. There are exceptions, one is to carry a gun that is either dismantled or locked in a case while on the way to or from a shooting range, another is to carry a handgun while traveling, which is defined as crossing 3 county lines in one day. Display of a firearm violations can include such display on your own property if you are in view of a public area. TP
