Mula - Re: "Now if HP doesn't dominate this IA-64 they will only have to blame themselves"
Does anybody really think HP WON'T come out with an ITanium system ?
Of course not - especially HP !
``The speed and scalability of SAS software running on HP-UX and IA-64 show the strength of our joint solutions for e-intelligence and our commitment to helping customers leverage the latest Intel technology,'' said Nigel Ball, vice president and general manager of HP's E-Services Partner Division. ``Our long-standing relationship with SAS in providing industry-leading data-access, data-warehousing and Web-enabled personalization solutions will enter a new dimension with IA-64. Itanium is here, and it's the real deal.''
The first demonstration of SAS on HP-UX and IA-64 will take place at the annual SAS European Users Group International (SeUGI) conference this week in Dublin, Ireland.

HP and SAS to Demonstrate Enhanced Performance on New HP-UX Itanium System
PALO ALTO, Calif., and CARY, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 2000--Hewlett-Packard Company and SAS Institute, the market leader in integrated data warehousing and decision support, today announced that they will demonstrate SAS© software running on a prototype Intel Itanium(TM) system from HP. Itanium, the first IA-64 (Intel Architecture, 64-bit) microprocessor, was developed jointly by HP and Intel.
Many SAS customers have deployed e-business and e-commerce applications, enterprise data warehouses and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions that pull huge volumes of data from the Web and from transactional processing systems, such as ERP systems. For these customers, the powerful analytics of SAS are key to reaching business decisions quickly, as are the speed and scalability of the microprocessor. IA-64-based servers with 64-bit addressability -- such as the HP-UX(1) Itanium system -- will translate into better performance for e-business, data-warehousing and data-mining applications that involve database access.
``Delivering innovation to our customers is at the core of our business at SAS,'' said Jim Goodnight, president and chief executive officer of SAS. ``To this end, SAS is committed to supporting HP-UX IA-64 on Itanium servers. The speed and scalability of the operating environment and hardware platform are critical factors for business decision-making. By combining SAS' industry-leading data-warehousing, data-mining and e-intelligence solutions with HP's powerful new HP-UX IA-64 platform, customers in all industries will be able to access and analyze their data more effectively and reach critical business decisions more rapidly, thus achieving competitive advantage.''
