My point is that Willamette on dual-RDRAM platform will be far enough ahead of whatever AMD considers "competitive" that Intel will find customers willing to pay the extra big bucks for such performance. I seriously don't think 1.5 GHz Mustang on single-DDR platform will even come close to the performance of Willamette on dual-RDRAM at the time.

AMD will probably have a price/performance advantage over Willamette, depending on how expensive the Willamette workstations will be and/or how far AMD is willing to drop their own prices. Even Intel is expressing concern about driving Willamette into more mainstream markets so that people won't have to pay through their noses. Fortunately for Intel, Willamette will initially be low-volume, which makes the concern moot for a while.

Later, when Intel ramps up the volumes of Willamette (and its follow-on, Northwood), the price/performance issue will become much more important, and a dual-RDRAM platform just isn't going to cut it. Believe me, Intel is already aware of this, even though they are silent on how they will address the issue.
