jbe,
After having a bitter debate with X, with a long stream of vitriolic posts, a few weeks ago, I know, for certain, that her "what if" post was intended to make me angry, and she succeeded in that.

Because of the free will given to men by God, the innocents suffer from the misdeeds of deranged, and power hungry, men exercising this free will in ways far removed from what God would wish them to do. All of the faults with the world today, and in the past, were caused by mankind, and not by God. When God gave man this free will, it was like a promise, and God does not break His promises. I feel quite sure that he laments many of the actions of mankind.

As far as floods, volcanos, tornados, etc., the forces of nature are just that--nature in action. A planet, being an inanimate object, is influenced by natural forces. I know someone is going to say; "Why doesn't God prevent these things?" I say, why should He? In my belief, the absolute blissful living will come after life on Earth, and that we can expect to be tried in the fires of adversity. Some will come through these fires victorious in the conquering of their woes. Others will fail because their Faith is not strong enough. I cannot explain those children that are born with mental, and physical defects, but know in my heart, that there is a reason buried somewhere deep in the seed that has caused it.

X has hurled her caustic, snobbish, disdain at me one time too many. Whatever her problems in life, I believe that she has brought them on herself. ~H~
