[USRX and TI]

This just came up on AOl/Reuters. I'm not going to sleep well wondering if it's Aware or AMTX. I honestly can't believe TI would develop ADSL with Aware, but then I didn't think USR would either.

<<<SKOKIE, Ill., May 12 (Reuter) - U.S. Robotics Corp. and Texas Instruments Inc. are expected to announce Tuesday plans for a hybrid computer modem, which can be used both on conventional phone lines and with high-speed Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) technology.

According to industry sources, the modems will include U.S.

Robotics' new x2 technology, which allows users to connect to the Internet at speeds of up to 56 kilobits per second over phone lines.

The modems will also include ADSL technology, which with a special connection gives download speeds of up to eight megabits per second.

The idea is to allow users to upgrade to ADSL as the technology is more widely available, without having to buy another modem. The modems are expected to be available in the first half of next year, the sources said.

The two companies scheduled a telephone conference call for Tuesday morning. U.S. Robotics declined to comment and would not give details about the conference call, and Texas Instruments could not be immediately reached. >>>
