"What went wrong?"

maybe nothing. maybe lots of things.

this place is what people make it. there's pettiness and ugliness enough to make you ill... but there's extra big portions of helpfulness and fun and regard and concern.

i see virtually no differences between this and 3D. jerks are still going to be jerks no matter what the venue... and good people are not going to be discouraged by negativity.

formatwise, si is better than the rest. my opinion, of course. dwindling post numbers, you say? what you have is saturation, dilution, attrition.... a whole array of variables impact readership and membership. i personally appreciate the presence of a person like si admin bob. his function here does not fall under the heading of overzealousness, as i see it.

to reiterate, this place is what we make it. if it's all deterioration and cracked pottery in one person's view, then that's their reality. if it's community, a vessel and an interest in my view... then that's my reality.

i think si is pretty much a microcosm of everything else we see before us. it's a mirror. it is all a reflection. and it shows us precisely what we show to it.

the potential to be great again? it lies with us, the members. but who says it isn't great now? why are the unhappy unhappy? what are they seeing? what are they showing the mirror?
