Wed 21 Jun 2000 News Release
Mr. Alex Dolgonos reports
Unique Broadband Systems has shipped and successfully installed a wireless
video system prototype for Hong Kong Cable Television Ltd. The UBS wireless
video system prototype is now operational and is being tested by Hong Kong
Cable in field trials to determine the total output requirements of the
transmitters and repeaters.
Hong Kong Cable, the only wireless distributor and fibre optic system
provider in the territory, signed a contract with UBS in February, 2000.
UBS is providing Hong Kong Cable with a complete 18-gigahertz
point-to-multipoint video distribution system with transmitters, repeaters,
transmit antennas, LNBs and feedhorns.
When in full operation, the UBS equipment will enable Hong Kong Cable to
operate 14 transmitter/repeater sites and service more than 450,000 current
wireless cable subscribers, as well as provide wireless service to all of
Hong Kong. This will make it one of the largest systems in Asia and the
only system operating in the 18-gigahertz frequency. The platform will
support full expansion of the system into a bidirectional Internet-ready
system for the future growth of Hong Kong Cable.
"Hong Kong Cable is a trailblazer in the adoption of leading-edge
technologies," said Alex Dolgonos, president and chief executive officer of
UBS. "The installation of our wireless video system prototype in Hong Kong
will showcase the vast capabilities of our broadband wireless technology in
this region of the world. We are confident that our results in Hong Kong
will help us to further expand our reach into the Pacific Rim with our
wireless video and related products."
