My guess was that foreigners would eventually keep us in check and stop funding our excesses. So far they haven't.

"Why" is an interesting question. The foreign press seems much more aware of the "buuble" than the US press and has been for several years.

You have to sort of wonder whether foreign financial institutions are under pressure by their governments to continue to do so. Foreign countries are also sort of locked into the situation. When the US blows so does everyone's biggest market.
