Motorola to upgrade Hutchison Telecom to TIA/EIA-IS-95B standard.
This is not news but they did a new press release on it today.
biz.yahoo.com
I see while composing this, Ruffian posted the complete text.

I think the reasons they are going to IS-95-B intead of 1X are.
1.) IS-95-B is readily availble and fully tested, 1X is still in field trials.
2.) Motorola will take only two months to do the upgrade according to another press release.
3.) 1S-95-B handsets are available now, IX handsets are not.
4.) An upgrade to IS-95-B is relatively cheap
5.) Mototrola is their base station equipment provider. Motorola doesn't have a 1X solution ready, 1XTREME is still on the drawing boards.
