Jasmine rice is as good as Basmati, I think. If you go to an ethnic grocer, you can get 25 pound bags of Jasmine for less than $20. Buy a small bag and see if you like it. If the outside bag is burlap, the rice will taste like burlap, IMO, so make sure when you buy a big bag to get one with a white outside bag.
