The Big Pig Gig Launches New and Improved Website: www.bigpiggig.com; Web Surfers Invited to Use Pig-Latin Translator and Send Pork Cards Business Editors, High Tech Writers CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2000--The organizers of Cincinnati's Big Pig Gig announced today the launch of an updated website (www.bigpiggig.com) that allows web surfers to send pig-latin emails and personalized pork cards, as well as purchase commemorative Big Pig Gig clothing and merchandise online. The site, developed by Cincinnati's MPI Studio (www.mpistudio.com), also includes information about each of the sponsors of the event, a "just for kids" section, information about the Big Pig Gig, pig recipes, pig books and other related activities. The site will soon include a searchable map showing the location of each of the approximately 400 pigs, as well as full color photographs of each pig. The Big Pig Gig launched its original web site in January 2000. Since that time, bigpiggig.com has had more than 2 million hits, and currently averages 4,500 users daily. More than 150,000 pig-latin translations have been sent to date, and approximately 10,000 pork cards have gone from friend to friend, indicating the tremendous popularity of these fun features. "The website was already an entertaining way for people to find more information about the Gig. But now it allows them to translate Pig-Latin, send Pork Cards to their friends and purchase clothing and merchandise to show their support for the Gig," said Tamara Harkavy, Gig coordinator and executive director of Artworks. The site's merchandise section will initially contain approximately 15 products, including Gig t-shirts, pig-snout coffee mugs and "hog callers", a noisemaker that sounds like a real pig. "The site is a key marketing tool for the gig," says Harkavy. "Providing an e-commerce outlet for Gig merchandise is a natural extension. Pig lovers from BirmingHAM to Sowth Dakota will have instant access to high-quality hog wear." About MPI Studio, www.bigpiggig.com designer As a public art event, the Gig necessitated an interactive partner who could take the Gig's creative energy onto the web with the same artistic approach and tolerance for pig puns. The Big Pig Gig selected MPI Studio as its interactive agency due to their energetic, creative and fun approach to promoting the event online. An excellent example of the community support that has characterized the Big Pig Gig, MPI Studio is hosting the site, and has developed and created all of the interactive elements of the site as a pro bono contribution to the Big Pig Gig. About the Big Pig Gig The Big Pig Gig is a public art event occurring from June - October 2000 in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Nearly 400 painted fiberglass porkers will hog the streets in celebration of Cincinnati's Porkopolis heritage. This community-wide public art initiative showcases emerging and established local artists, supports tourism and promotes regional partnerships. The Big Pig Gig is a production of ARTWORKS, an award-winning arts-based employment and job training program for youth in the Greater Cincinnati region. --30--slb/clv* CONTACT: Big Pig Gig Betsy Neyer, 513/871-6258 or Northlich Public Relations Sheila Fitton, 513/762-1989 KEYWORD: OHIO KENTUCKY INDUSTRY KEYWORD: INTERNET ENTERTAINMENT TRAVEL E-COMMERCE RETAIL Today's News On The Net - Business Wire's full file on the Internet with Hyperlinks to your home page.
