The author butchers the oil shale aspect, citing sources from 15 years ago. Australia's oil shale is looking like it will become a huge source. Also, the Caspian Sea holds a large reserve. Generally, though, I do agree with the author.

P.S. Blaming the economic crises of the 1970s on the oil embargoes is rather silly, too. I thought Matthew Simmons had shredded that fantasy.
