GZ,
Thanks for the excellent response. A couple of observations of last Oct's runaway rally:

1)On the third day following the Oct low, I saw a very unusual pattern for an index : an bullish outside day following a strong up day. In other words, one day the market goes up strongly, basically from opening until closing. The next day, the market gaps down at the open lower than the previous day's low, and closes above the previous day's high. I don't think I have ever seen that pattern at any other time (on an index). I don't know if that had anything to do with the market's runaway tendencies.

2)At the end of Oct, the Naz gapped up over resistance at ~2900, just sort of "jumped over" resistance and never looked back. The current rally did the same thing at around 3750 and just came back minimally to test that gap.

3)The upswing starting at the Oct bottom had the same slope as the previous mini-upswing during the first half of Oct.

I'm just making observations here and am not sure of their significance.
