Microsoft Working With GE On Home Networking Standards
Dow Jones Newswires

CHICAGO -- Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) will collaborate with General Electric Co. (GE) to mesh divergent home-control applications into a unified standard for lightweight home-control networking.

In a press release Wednesday, Microsoft said it demonstrated the Simple Control Protocol, a lightweight, royalty-free networking technology for home-control products and smart devices, at Chicago's Home Automation conference this week.

Microsoft said it seeks to promote interoperability for Microsoft and General Electric products, along with those of other consumer product companies.

Microsoft said additional companies in the industry will participate in the measures, but didn't name the companies.
