Korea, China to Form CDMA Telecom Specialist Conference

June 21, 2000 (SEOUL) -- Seoul and Beijing
have agreed to form a specialist conference on
code division multiple access (CDMA) to
negotiate measures for technology transfer and
joint development of the technology.

The two countries also agreed to cooperate with
each other in the mobile telecom business,
including IMT-2000 systems.

Korea's Minister of Information &
Communications Ahn Byung-yun traveled to
Beijing to meet with his Chinese counterpart on
June 19. Also, his delegation held export talks
with Chinese telecom firms, including China
Unicom.

"Agreements are crucial, considering the recent
trade sanctions on Korean-made mobile phone
handsets by the Chinese government," said an
official at Korea's information ministry.
