Actually I recall something opposite: when Nasdaq came down to almost 3000 and INTC went to $106 (May 10, 2000), one of the paranoid rumors was that Intel's VC is probably going to do badly.
I have no idea how can one "know" what is Intel's quarterly capital gain until they realize it and tell you, as they just did. After all, they choose and pick what they are going to sell this Q, how can you know up-front? Unless you work for Intel's VC! Do you?
BTW it was a paper not a "cash" until they turned it into the cash and I am happy they did. Just MHO.
