Net Insight Forms Backbone in Regional Network
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jun 19, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The first order in the framework agreement with RegNet/Norrsken Gavle Net has, as the first town within RegNet/Norrsken, decided to use Net Insight's network switch Nimbra One as the backbone of its new metro network. Nimbra One enables real-time traffic like video, telephony and data services in a single broadband network. It is specially designed to meet the communication needs of the modern metro network. Of the 14 local communities that are establishing fiber-optic networks within the RegNet/Norrsken project, Gvle has made most progress. The Gavle Net will be an open network which several operators and services will be able to share - an aspect that in an unique way can be fully supported by Net Insight's DTM technology. The Nimbra One switches will form the backbone of the network and will handle all the traffic and services. Net Insight has sold the Nimbra One switches to Gavle Net via its partner Fiberdata, which estimates the total value of the framework agreement with RegNet to be over 100 million SEK. The initial order is estimated to approximately 2 million SEK. - This is the first specified order within the framework agreement with RegNet/Norrsken. The order is important as Gavle Net is very advanced as regards both network deployment and services offered. Many other metro networks in Sweden are closely following developments in Gvle, says Bengt Olsson, CEO of Net Insight. Gavle Net is a fiber-optic based broadband network that is to cover large parts of the populated areas of Gvle. Gavle Net is a part of RegNet/Norrsken, which is a fiber-optic infrastructure between the local communities in Gvleborg County and Gvleborg County Council. The network connects around 40 communities with a total population of approximately 1.6 million. - Net Insight's multi-service solution gives us a very secure platform, where we can maintain full control at all times when offering the services our customers need. This applies both to services that are available today - such as Internet and telephony - and to future services based on communication involving sound and moving pictures. The flexibility to build different network topologies allows us to optimize our infrastructure, said Ulf Borbos, Head of IT and Communications at Gavle Net. - The solution has been made possible thanks to very close collaboration between the customer and Net Insight. Gavle Net is leading the way for open metro networks that can cope with real-time broadband networks. We are now looking forward to building more open networks both within and outside this framework agreement, said Torbjrn Eriksen, CEO of Fiberdata.
