(2303.TW) has been given approval by Taiwan's Securities and Futures Commission for its planned issue of 450 million shares in American Depository Receipt form, an official at Taiwan's number two chipmaker said on Thursday. UMC is still waiting for approval from U.S. market regulators. It will be the chipmaker's first issue of ADRs. At 0230 GMT (10:30 p.m. EDT Wednesday), UMC's stock was trading NT$1.50 (US$1=NT$30.796), or 1.7%, higher at NT$88.50 on volume of 25.0 million shares.
