New Century Globalnet To Offer
Wireless Internet Access

KOBE (Nikkei)--New Century Globalnet Corp. plans in
the spring of 2001 to begin providing high-speed
wireless Internet access in Japan.

The firm will target households and smaller companies
that cannot afford major investments in information
technology. A relatively inexpensive connection will be
possible because there will be no need for expensive
cable wiring.

The service will employ a fixed wireless access system.
Users will install wireless antennas and receivers and will
access Internet service providers through the company's
data center. The system will be able to handle data at
speeds of 256Kbps to 45Mbps. Usage fees are
expected to be less than those for connection services
that require wiring.

The service will be launched in Kobe, and will be rolled
out nationwide in two to three years.
