Lucent, Sprint PCS testing mobile Internet
product

MURRAY HILL, N.J., June 22 (Reuters) - Leading U.S. telecom equipment and
software maker Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU - news) and digital wireless network
company Sprint PCS (NYSE:PCS - news) on Thursday said they will test a wireless
data system that will provide high-speed access to the mobile Internet users.

In a statement, the companies said they will test the third generation wireless technology named 1xEVolution (1xEV).
The system, a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless technology based on High Data Rate (HDR), was
jointly developed by both companies' operator requirements.

The trial, to begin over the Kansas City, Mo.-based Sprint PCS network in the first half of 2001, involves testing and
verification of the 2.4 megabit per second (Mbps) 3G data capability.
