(NASDAQ:BWSI - news) announced today that Telspec, a manufacturer of leading edge switches for advanced communication networks, has chosen the ComStruct(TM) CPCI/C5421 DSP resource board to provide the processing power needed to add high-density Voice/Fax/Data over IP to its next generation of switches.
The combination of Blue Wave's powerful CPCI/C5421 CompactPCI© DSP board, Texas Instruments' (NYSE:TXN - news) market leading TMS320C5421(TM) digital signal processor and Texas Instruments' embedded Voice/Fax/Data over IP Telogy Software(TM) will enable the new Telspec switches to provide intelligent network services to bridge the gap between traditional circuit-switched and emerging IP networks. Telspec supplies switching and network access solutions to major telecommunications manufacturers and service providers world wide. Through partners that include Alcatel, Ericsson and Lucent, it has built an installed base of products in over 35 countries serving over 5 million telephone subscribers. The high level of integration delivered by the ComStruct platform will allow us to bring our product to market quickly and enable our service provider customers to introduce creative, value-added services at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods.''
The CPCI/C5421 boards will be integrated into a Motorola Computer Group (MCG) (NYSE:MOT - news) CPX8216 CompactPCI system running LynxOS, providing a platform that is optimized to deliver high availability in telecom and IP applications. Blue Wave and Motorola are working in close co-operation to provide embedded solutions to telecom OEMs as part of MCG's Embedded Connections program. The open system approach provided by Blue Wave's ComStruct solution delivers a high degree of implementation flexibility, enabling the user to tailor the architecture to meet his exact application needs.
Kevin Parslow, executive vice president for Blue Wave Systems, added, ``Successful partnerships are playing an increasingly important role in telecom development, particularly at the cutting edge of technology, and this is a perfect example. Our close relationship with Texas Instruments has brought together best in class hardware and software to create a powerful deployment platform that is second to none, enabling manufacturers to integrate Voice/Fax/Data over IP into their next-generation products quickly and efficiently.''
Part of the ComStruct product line, the CPCI/C5421 board incorporates 20 programmable Texas Instruments' TMS320C5421 DSPs with four PowerQUICC(TM) microprocessors and is optimized to run Texas Instruments' Telogy Software. Together these elements form the CPCI/C5421 VoIP subsystem, providing more than 120 channels of simultaneous voice and fax relay, or 120 channels of modem.
