For example, would one favor a "duena society", that is, one where unmarried women are constantly chaperoned by married relations, if it would reduce the incidence of unintended pregnancy. Most of us, even conservatives, would say no, because we value personal liberty and rough equality between the sexes more than we deplore the occasional premarital liaison or pregnancy. Similarly, if we established once and for all that there was no deterrent value to execution, would you be against it. Most conservatives would say no, because it is a matter of justice, not deterrence.
In this instance, I wanted you to weigh the bad effects of gun proliferation against the possibility of deleterious side effects due to social engineering, to determine your scale of values.
