J Fieb,

The way I interpret this DFAS thing is as follows.

1. It is a software/hardware platform, a new protocol, using VI.

2. The software part is probably run as a subsystem in an operating system (unix?)

3. It requires vendors to embrace it, more the better. Application softwares need to be written for this subsystem. Hardwares need to have VI support, among other things. It claims to enhance data network transmission.

4. There is a political ramification here. It offloads work from the operating system, i.e. less work for the servers. Therefore server companies will most likely drag their feet on this one.

5. The beauty of it is that no matter which way the wind blows, FC companies will benefit IMO.
